The beach here is part of what locals consider the best stretch of coastline, and honestly, after walking both directions from the hotel, I’d have to agree. Free parking is available right on-site, which is actually a bigger deal than you might think since many beachfront places in this area make you park way back on the main road.

I’ll be straight with you — the beds here are genuinely comfortable, not just “good for a beach hotel” comfortable. The room I stayed in had this airy feel with high ceilings and windows positioned to catch the Caribbean breeze, which means you’re not constantly battling the AC. The bathrooms are spacious enough that you’re not bumping elbows, and the shower pressure is solid (trust me, that’s not always a given in this part of Mexico). What I really appreciated were the little touches — like proper reading lights and enough outlets that you don’t have to choose between charging your phone and using the coffee maker.

Food & Dining

The American-style breakfast works well here, especially since they’ve adapted it with local ingredients and flavors. You’ll find familiar items like eggs and pancakes, but prepared with that Mexican attention to fresh ingredients that makes everything taste better. The restaurant area opens right onto the beach, so you’re basically eating with your toes in the sand — which sounds cliché until you’re actually doing it and realize how perfectly relaxing it is. Service moves at beach pace, which means you’ll want to order that second coffee early if you’re planning to head out exploring.

  This is a lovely chilled hotel on the most beautiful part of tulum beach. The staff went out of their way to help us enjoy our stay, providing recommendations for activities and booking restaurants etc. Thanks to Stephan for being so kind at all times! It is a chilled vibe without lots of amenities but sun loungers by the sea, a little basic bar, not much more is needed! Our family room was very comfortable with towels and dressing gowns provided and free filtered water. There wasn’t a fridge which would have been nice. But the room was very clean and stepping onto the sand and walking a few steps to the sea was heaven.

  It was right on the beach and a short walk to all the bars and restaurants. Tulum was very hot and humid but thankfully the room was air conditioned. And the staff was super helpful and very responsive to all our questions. We also made use of all the included amenities like morning yoga, access to the jungle gym and the ahau beach club.

  I had an amazing time at Alaya Tulum. The staff were great and very attentive. Travelling solo, it’s important to have a good connection with the staff and they made me feel very welcome.
  The room was great and housekeeping did a great job of keeping it fresh and clean each day. I ate breakfast in the restaurant and lunch at the beach and both were very good. Santos was a lovely guy! Rony brought me coffee to my room each morning, he is so nice! Do not get the massage at the massage hut on the beach next to the hotel, it was terrible and not worth the money at all. Lots of other places to consider instead. I did the yoga twice and it was amazing, a great start to the day. I like the mornings and you will catch a stunning sunrise on the beach if you get up early!
