Casa Zaba Overview

First Impressions

Honestly, when I first pulled up to Casa Zaba, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect — the entrance is tucked away along the Tulum-Boca Paila road, about 10 kilometers from town. But you know what? That’s exactly what makes this place special. This four-star boutique property sits right in the heart of Tulum’s hotel zone, and I mean right where you want to be. The moment you step onto the property, there’s this immediate sense of calm that washes over you — it’s like the jungle and beach had a conversation and decided to create the perfect middle ground.

Location & Getting Around

The location here is actually incredible, and I’m not just saying that because they have a 9.7 location score. You’re literally minutes from some of Tulum’s best beach clubs and cenotes, but far enough from the main drag that you won’t hear scooters buzzing by at all hours. What I really appreciated was the free private parking on site — trust me, this matters more than you think in Tulum. Most places either don’t have it or charge you extra, so being able to just pull up and not worry about your rental car is honestly a relief.

The Accommodations

My room had this perfect blend of modern comfort and that bohemian Tulum vibe everyone comes here for. The design feels authentic without being overly rustic — you’ve got proper air conditioning (essential), a comfortable bed, and these gorgeous natural materials throughout. The bathroom was surprisingly spacious, and I loved the little outdoor shower area. It’s clear they put thought into the details, from the locally-made textiles to the way the space flows between indoor and outdoor areas.

Dining & Atmosphere

The on-site restaurant serves up some seriously good food — I mean, you’re not going to find tourist trap stuff here. They focus on fresh, local ingredients, and the breakfast alone is worth staying for. The whole property has this laid-back energy that couples seem to absolutely love (and honestly, I can see why the rating reflects that). There’s something about the way the spaces are designed that feels intimate without being cramped, if that makes sense.

Why Guests Love It

Look, with a 9.5 rating, Casa Zaba is clearly doing something right. What struck me most was how they’ve managed to capture that authentic Tulum magic without sacrificing comfort or convenience. You’re close enough to explore the ruins, hit the beach clubs, or discover hidden cenotes, but you’ve also got this peaceful retreat to come back to. The staff genuinely seems to care about your experience, and there’s this attention to detail that you notice in small ways throughout your stay. It’s the kind of place where you actually want to spend time at the hotel, not just use it as a place to crash between adventures.

Best hotels in Tulum balance eco-chic design, rooftop infinity pools, and mezcal tastings under starlit palms.

  • Rann from Israel (9/10)

I stayed in the smaller house. It is perfect for two couples or a couple and 1-2 children. Very comfortable. Very isolated with a lovely private beach, and totally secure. Myriam and Juan are very nice, friendly, welcoming, prompt and professional. First class stay.
One tip – If you want to enjoy fully the secluded paradise experience Casa Zaba offers, it's best to plan in detail all the shopping you will need and to ask Myriam to do it for you ahead of time. It's totally worth it. Then if you do want to eat or drink out, you can walk 500-600m up the beach to Nomad or Chringitos (and watch the turtles come up to lay eggs in the eveneing) and not have to go out to the street or into town. Going outside to the street is a bit of a jarring contrast to the oasis of the villa, and the nearest supermarket is about a 25 minute drive.
