Cielo Maya Beach Tulum Overview

First Impressions

When I first pulled up to Cielo Maya Beach Tulum, I honestly wasn’t sure what to expect from this four-star spot tucked away in Tankah III. The entrance is pretty understated — you know how some places try too hard with flashy signage? This isn’t one of them. What struck me immediately was how quiet everything felt, even though you’re just minutes from Tulum‘s main hotel zone. The property has this laid-back vibe that feels authentically Mexican rather than trying to be some generic beach resort.

Location & Getting Around

Here’s what I really appreciated about the location — you’re close enough to everything but far enough away from the crowds that descend on Tulum’s main beach strip. Tankah Bay is actually one of those spots that locals still use, which tells you something. The cenotes are practically next door (I mean, you could walk to a couple of them), and when you want to hit the ruins or grab dinner in town, it’s maybe a 10-minute drive. The hotel provides free private parking, which honestly saved me a headache since finding a spot in central Tulum can be a nightmare during high season.

The Room Experience

My room was simple but really well thought out — clean lines, local materials, and those beds everyone raves about? Yeah, they’re as comfortable as advertised. I’m usually pretty picky about mattresses, but I slept better here than I had in weeks. The air conditioning actually works (not always a given in this part of Mexico), and there’s enough space to spread out without feeling like you’re rattling around in some massive suite. What I loved most was the little terrace — nothing fancy, just a spot to sit with your morning coffee and listen to the birds wake up.

Food & Dining

The breakfast situation really impressed me, especially if you’re vegetarian or vegan — they actually know what they’re doing instead of just throwing together some sad fruit plate. I watched them prepare fresh tortillas most mornings, and the local honey they serve is incredible. The restaurant keeps things simple but uses really good ingredients, mostly sourced from the area. You’re not going to find molecular gastronomy here, but honestly, when you’re this close to the beach and everything tastes this fresh, who needs it?

Why Guests Love It

What keeps people coming back — and I can see why couples especially love this place — is that it strikes this perfect balance between being comfortable and feeling authentic. You’re not isolated from the real Tulum, but you’re also not dealing with the chaos that some of the bigger places bring. The staff genuinely seems to care about what they’re doing, which makes a huge difference when you’re trying to relax. It’s the kind of place where you can spend the morning exploring cenotes, grab lunch in town, and still make it back for a quiet afternoon by the water without feeling rushed or overwhelmed.

Savvy travelers reserve a hotel in Tulum before winter wellness retreats fill jungle domes and ocean-view suites.

The room and double bed were spacious and extremely confortable ; staff were lovely and helpful; breakfast was delicious and offered a variety of choices; amenities in room was generous; AC and water pressure in the bathroom were terrific and entertainment channels ( Netflix and Prime vedeo ) were perfect for to chill after an active day.Overall, my husband and I had a very pleasant and memorable stay at Cielo Maya . We would certainly recommend this place whilst in Tulum. Candy in reception was remarkable as well as Ronaldo in the restaurant.

Cielo Maya is a beautiful property. It allows an elegant, smaller experience to the larger super properties. Everyone on the staff is helpful and friendly and looking forward to making your stay great. Candy, Beimar, Santos and Frederico were great! The location right on the glistening blue Carribean is amazing. The beach set-up has a variety of areas from umbrellaed lounge chairs, beachy- type beds, cool huts with beanbag chairs to hammocks on the pier. You can kayak and paddle board too. There is also a beautiful infinity pool that looks out onto the water. Cielo Maya was truly a wonderful find.

  • François-xavier from France (8/10)

Cielo Maya is a very nice hotel boasting big rooms with large windows and a well-maintained private beach.
There is also a pontoon with hammocks from where you can go snorkeling (the water is very shallow, yet we saw a great variety of species including a stingray).
You can borrow the canoes (single or double) and snorkeling equipment.
Overall it was a very relaxed and pleasant stay.
