Kimpton Aluna Resort Tulum, an IHG Hotel Overview

First Impressions

Walking into Kimpton Aluna Resort Tulum, an IHG Hotel, you immediately feel like you’ve stumbled onto something special. This five-star property sits in the Zama development, which honestly feels more like a carefully curated jungle retreat than your typical resort zone. The design strikes this perfect balance between luxury and that laid-back Tulum vibe — you know, where everything looks effortlessly beautiful but you can tell serious thought went into every detail.

Location & Setting

The location in Tulum is genuinely impressive, and I can see why couples rate it so highly. You’re positioned perfectly between the mystical ruins and those Instagram-famous cenotes, but far enough from the main hotel strip to feel like you’ve discovered a hidden gem. What I love is that you get easy access to both the archaeological zone and the beach clubs without being stuck in the middle of all that tourist chaos. The Zama area itself is developing into this sophisticated enclave — it’s where you want to be if you’re after that elevated Tulum experience.

The Room Experience

The accommodations here feel more like a luxury retreat than a standard hotel room. Each space embraces that modern Mexican aesthetic with natural materials and these gorgeous jungle views that make you forget you’re actually in a resort. The attention to detail is what sets it apart — from the locally-sourced amenities to the way the architecture seamlessly blends with the surrounding cenote-dotted landscape. You’ll find yourself spending way more time on your private terrace than you planned, just soaking in that serene atmosphere.

Dining & Amenities

The breakfast setup is actually quite impressive — they offer continental, American, and buffet options, so whether you’re craving fresh tropical fruit or a proper eggs Benedict, you’re covered. The main restaurant showcases this beautiful fusion of international flavors with local Yucatecan influences, and honestly, the presentation alone is worth it. What really surprised me was how thoughtful they are about the little things — like having free private parking, which might not sound glamorous but trust me, it matters when you’re exploring the Riviera Maya at your own pace.

Why Guests Love It

There’s something about this place that just works for people seeking that authentic yet refined Tulum experience. The property manages to capture the mystical energy of the region while delivering the comfort and service you’d expect from a premium resort. Couples especially seem to connect with the intimate scale and the way the resort feels integrated into the natural environment rather than imposed upon it. It’s the kind of place where you can have a transformative cenote experience in the morning and enjoy world-class hospitality by evening — which, let’s be honest, is exactly what you come to Tulum hoping to find.

The luxury concierge service in Tulum secures sunrise yacht charters, VIP beach club tables, and bespoke wellness itineraries under jungle canopies.

We loved the warm friendly staff! The rooftop pool and cabana was great! We enjoyed some of the complimentary activities like happy hour and yoga. The breakfast buffet was so worth adding to our reservation. A great variety of foods and beverages to choose from! The location was great. Near the Main Street but far enough where it was not loud during the day or evenings.

The ease of getting around the property, the staff, and the food.

  • Hugh from United Kingdom (9/10)

The hotel itself is very nice, just like the photos and the staff were lovely. The food was also very good. The rain was extremely heavy one of the days so the top resteraunt was closed but they opened the downstairs late instead (the food was actually even better). You get plenty of space and rental bikes – town is walkable but I wouldn't try walk to the beach

  • Folasade from United Kingdom (8/10)

The hotel has a lovely aesthetic, a decent breakfast and quite good amenities. You can rent bikes for free to get around. The rooms are really spacious, each with its own lovely seating area. The staff is friendly. There are two pools – one next to the breakfast area on the ground floor and a rooftop pool for adults. The WiFi is good!
