Maria Del Mar Tulum – Adults Only Overview
First Impressions
When I first pulled up to Maria Del Mar Tulum – Adults Only, honestly, I wasn’t sure what to expect from this stretch of the Tulum-Bocapaila road. But you know what? This four-star property completely surprised me with its understated elegance. The entrance doesn’t scream sophistication, but there’s something refreshingly authentic about the way it blends into the coastal landscape — no flashy signs or over-the-top architecture, just clean lines and natural materials that feel right at home in Tulum.
Location & Surroundings
The location is actually brilliant, and I can see why couples rate it so highly. You’re about 4 kilometers down the beach road from Tulum’s main strip, which means you get that perfect balance — close enough to bike into town for dinner (maybe 10 minutes), but far enough to escape the crowds that can overwhelm the central beach area. The parking situation is refreshingly stress-free too, which honestly matters more than you’d think when you’re trying to explore the cenotes and ruins nearby. I mean, having your own secure spot right at the hotel makes day trips so much easier.
The Room Experience
My room faced the ocean, and waking up to that view never got old during my stay. The design strikes this nice balance between modern comfort and that bohemian Tulum vibe — think clean white linens, natural wood accents, and just enough local touches without feeling like a theme park. The air conditioning works well (crucial in this humidity), and the bathroom actually has decent water pressure, which isn’t always a given in this part of Mexico. What I really appreciated was the attention to sound — the walls are thick enough that you’re not hearing every conversation from neighboring rooms.
Breakfast & Daily Rhythms
The American-style breakfast setup works well for what it is, though don’t expect anything too elaborate. What I liked was the timing flexibility — you can grab coffee and pastries early if you’re planning a sunrise cenote visit, or linger over a proper meal if you’re in vacation mode. The staff seems to understand that people have different rhythms here, some rushing off to explore ruins, others planning to spend the entire day on the beach. The coffee is actually quite good, which matters more than you might think when you’re adjusting to the heat and humidity.
Why Guests Love It
This place gets the adults-only concept right without being stuffy about it. There’s a relaxed sophistication that lets you unwind properly — no kids running around the pool, but also no pretentious atmosphere that makes you feel like you can’t just chill in your swimsuit with a book. The beach access is direct and the stretch of sand feels more private than the busier spots closer to town. I think what really works here is that it feels like a place locals might actually recommend, not just another tourist trap along the beach road. The 8.4 rating makes sense — it’s not trying to be the fanciest place in Tulum, but it delivers exactly what it promises.

Reviews of Maria Del Mar Tulum – Adults Only
Sophie from Germany (9/10)
The hotel is really beautiful! A modern building with an amazing garden, pool area and beach. The location on the beach front is very important since there is almost no public beach access in whole tulum. The rooms are super clean and nicely decorated. Also, the food and drinks at the restaurant which belongs to the hotel are very delicious. The staff is super friendly and helpful! It's located close to shops, supermarkets, restaurants and bars which are really nice and not as expensive compared to other places in the zona hotelera of Tulum. Also, there is free parking right across the street.
Tulum itself wasn't really our taste since everything is super expensive (in the zona hotelera even for european standards).
With Maria del Mar we made an excellent choice and really enjoyed our stay. We can totally recommend staying at this hotel.Diana from Romania (9/10)
The location is wonderful, lovely beach right in front of your room, nice pool and a deck on the cliffs to watch the sunrise. The room was very big, clean and comfortable.

Pierre from Germany (9/10)
The staff was very welcoming and helpful. Although managed separately from the hotel, the restaurant next door offered good and affordable breakfast for guests. They served a large selection of dishes and drinks, pricy but delicious. The swimming pool was great, the beach beautiful, and the location quite incredible overall. Some shops and alternative places for food were within walking distance.

A lovely small hotel. Great location and good facilities. The room had a great view of the ocean. Mostly very good food in the restaurant, although the breakfast choice is fairly limited (unless you pay for dishes that aren’t in the free list).
Tommaso from Italy (8/10)
Room was big and comfortable, pool was nice and well kept. We also appreciated the free parking close by and the location not in the party zone.

Amazing staff
Carl from Netherlands (9/10)
Location location location!! We had the infinity suite, views across the sea 180 around, and 2 terasses. The room was very clean and spacious, and the beds were good.
Katrin from Belgium (9/10)
The room was awesome, large with an amazing ocean view from the balcony. The private beach was really nice, the pool a bit small and very warm due to the temperature. The aircon in the room and the fan was excellent. The breakfast was very good, we opted for some non-standard (or included in the breakfast option). The hotel has parking which was opposite the hotel. The signing outside the hotel is not very obvious so we had to search for it. Would have liked to stay a bit longer.
