Mayan Monkey Tulum Overview
First Impressions
Walking into Mayan Monkey Tulum, you immediately get that “this is going to be good” feeling. It’s one of those four-star places that doesn’t try too hard but somehow nails everything you actually want from a Tulum stay. The vibe is relaxed jungle chic — think rustic wooden beams mixed with modern touches, and you can hear the sounds of the surrounding nature even from the lobby. Honestly, it feels like someone took the best parts of a boutique hotel and dropped it right into the heart of the Riviera Maya.
Location & Getting Around
The location on Avenida Coba is actually pretty smart — you’re close enough to everything that matters but far enough from the beach crowds to get some peace. I mean, you’re about 15 minutes from the main archaeological zone and maybe 10 minutes to the beach clubs along the coast. What I really appreciated was the free parking on site, which is honestly a lifesaver in Tulum where finding a decent spot can be a real headache. The couples I chatted with at breakfast seemed to love having this as their base for exploring — easy access to cenotes, ruins, and those Instagram-worthy beach spots without being right in the thick of tourist central.
The Room Experience
My room had this perfect balance of comfort and local character. The design leans into that modern Mexican aesthetic without feeling like a theme park version of it. Air conditioning worked great (crucial in this humidity), and the bed was actually comfortable — not always a given in boutique places that prioritize style over substance. The bathroom was spacious with good water pressure, and there were enough outlets for all your devices. You know what really stood out? The attention to lighting — they got the mix of natural and artificial light just right, so the space felt warm and inviting even during the afternoon heat.
Breakfast & Dining
The American breakfast setup works well here, though I was pleasantly surprised by how they incorporated some local touches. Fresh tropical fruits, decent coffee (important!), and they actually know how to make eggs properly. The restaurant area has this open-air feel that makes morning meals feel special rather than rushed. Service was friendly without being overly chatty — they seem to understand that some people need their coffee before conversation. It’s the kind of breakfast that gives you energy for a day of cenote hopping or ruin exploring without leaving you feeling too heavy.
Why Guests Love It
What really makes Mayan Monkey Tulum work is how it strikes that sweet spot between authentic local experience and reliable comfort. The staff genuinely seems to care about making your stay smooth, and the property has this laid-back energy that matches what most people are looking for in Tulum. It’s not trying to be the fanciest place in town, but it delivers on the things that actually matter — good sleep, solid amenities, helpful service, and that jungle-meets-modern vibe that makes you feel like you’re somewhere special. Plus, with recent guests consistently rating the location highly, you know you’re well-positioned to make the most of your time in this part of Mexico.

So happy to stay here. I’ve been overnighting along other Mayan Monkey hostels and till now this is my favorite. First, it was my mistake and I booked in wrong dates so I contacted the hostel staff and they solved that, also, they respected the price besides my booking was on weekend. The place is cool, bedroom, architecture, furnitures, the walls, the location, facilities, excellent, and the best the breakfast. I’ve been in several hostels around the world and by now Mayan Monkey breakfast is the best, including the options, taste and price. I wanna return to this place.
Fiona from Australia (8/10)
The dorms had strong air conditioning and felt spacious. The activites like sound healing and guacamole cooking classes for free were also amazing! Breakfast was also good.

Really nice value, comfy and well located
Misha from Netherlands (8/10)
The hostel is one of the most luxurious that I've stayed in. The facilities are great and the hostel is very clean. The hostel is also a bit further away from the Tulum centre which was great since this provides a calmer environment.
Dominik from Germany (9/10)
Everything except the kitchen clean and good equipped. Aiana at the reception gives a very welcoming feeling. Always smiling and happy to help
Victor from Romania (9/10)
The property is amazing, awesome pool, garden and coworking places, but the staff was very arrogant or even rude to me, except for Sol, she was the nicest person I met in Tulum!
Gabriela from United States (7/10)
Nice open shared areas, pool, quiet zone
There’s food options close by, grocery too – not even 5min walking
Tours, bike renting and market close by too
The staff was very nice and helpful
