First Impressions

When I first pulled up to Ophelia Experience in Zama, I honestly wasn’t sure what to expect — the name had me curious, and the location felt refreshingly removed from the main hotel strip in Tulum. This four-star property sits along Avenida Juanek, and you know what struck me immediately? The thoughtful design that somehow manages to feel both contemporary and connected to the jungle surroundings. It’s not trying too hard to be Instagram-perfect, which I actually appreciated after seeing so many overdone places in the area.

The Zama Advantage

Here’s something most people don’t realize about staying in Zama — you’re getting the best of both worlds without the chaos. I mean, you’re still close enough to reach Tulum’s cenotes and beach clubs, but you’re not dealing with the constant noise and crowds of the hotel zone. The free private parking on site is honestly a game-changer if you’re planning to rent a car and explore, which I’d definitely recommend. From here, you can easily hit up places like Gran Cenote or drive down to the ruins without fighting for a parking spot.

Room Experience

My room had this interesting blend of modern amenities with natural textures — lots of wood and stone that didn’t feel forced or overly rustic. The air conditioning worked perfectly (crucial in this humidity), and the bathroom was surprisingly spacious with a rainfall shower that actually had good water pressure. What I loved most was the private terrace area where I could sit with morning coffee and listen to the jungle waking up. The beds are comfortable, though I’d say the pillows could be a bit firmer if you’re picky about that sort of thing.

Dining and Atmosphere

The on-site restaurant serves a mix of Mexican and international dishes, and while it’s not going to win any culinary awards, the food is solid and the setting is lovely — especially for dinner when they light everything up. I particularly enjoyed their fresh ceviche and the grilled fish with local spices. The staff here really knows their stuff about the area too, so don’t hesitate to ask for recommendations about cenotes or local spots that aren’t overrun with tourists.

Why Guests Love It

The 8.3 rating makes perfect sense once you spend time here — it’s that sweet spot where you get quality without pretension. Couples especially seem drawn to this place, and I can see why. There’s something intimate about the scale and setting that makes it feel more personal than those massive resort complexes. The location in Zama gives you that authentic Tulum jungle vibe while still being accessible to everything you want to see and do. It’s the kind of place where you can actually relax and recharge between adventures, rather than feeling like you’re constantly in vacation mode.

  Perfect condo bedroom/kitchen and nice bathroom. A small patio. Well equipped. Clean. But best of all, a lovely pool and leisure area, gym and laundry room. Very comfortable. 15 mins walk to the town restaurants alo g a rough unmade road. The area is still being developed. We felt safe walking. Far from the beaches. I ran daily to the hotel zone beaches, about 5 miles. Could use colectivo transport.

  Beautiful accommodation, quiet and clean, with a huge pool area to seat and relax or work. The apartment comes with a little terrace and a kitchen to prepare food with a fridge and all needed utensils (microwave, pans, etc). The area is safe and 10 minutes by foot from the center. The staff (Mauricio) is very friendly and helps with anything you need. I enjoyed my stay here and will gladly come again!

  It’s a nice complex of privates apartments. Area was really good. Staff was friendly and helpful. You also can rent a bike for free. There’re plenty of options for workspace so it’s good for work life balance

  I was pleasantly surprised of how nice this place was, since I had read some mixed reviews. The room was beautiful and had everything I needed. I love that the kitchen had a blender and toaster so I could make nice breakfasts and meals. Super cute balcony where I spent a lot of time. The pool and pool area is amazing. Love that there was a gym even though I didn’t have time to use it. Everything was super clean and felt fresh and comfortable. Nice that you could borrow a bike for free.
