Tago Tulum by G Hotels Overview
First Impressions
When I first pulled up to Tago Tulum by G Hotels, honestly, I wasn’t sure what to expect from another five-star property along the Tulum-Boca Paila stretch. But you know what? This place actually surprised me. The entrance feels understated in that effortlessly chic way that luxury hotels in Tulum do so well — none of that over-the-top flashiness you sometimes get. There’s free parking right on-site, which might sound boring but trust me, after driving around Tulum’s sandy roads, you’ll appreciate not having to worry about your car.
Location & Getting Around
The hotel sits about 6 kilometers down the beach road from Tulum’s main strip, and I mean this in the best way possible — you’re far enough from the crowds but close enough that a quick bike ride gets you to the ruins or town center. What really struck me is how couples seem to gravitate toward this spot; I kept seeing pairs just wandering the beach at sunset, totally absorbed in their own little world. The location score of 8.2 makes sense when you realize you’re getting that perfect balance of seclusion and accessibility that’s honestly hard to find along this coastline.
The Room Experience
My room had this gorgeous view of the Caribbean that changes color throughout the day — sort of turquoise in the morning, then this deep blue by afternoon. The design feels authentically Mexican without being kitschy, if that makes sense. What I really appreciated was the attention to small details; the linens were crisp, the bathroom had this rainfall shower that actually had good water pressure (you’d be surprised how often that’s not the case in beachfront properties), and there was plenty of space to spread out without feeling like you’re rattling around in an oversized suite.
Dining & Food Scene
Okay, here’s where Tago really shines — the food is legitimately excellent. I’ve eaten at a lot of hotel restaurants that promise “authentic local cuisine” and deliver mediocre tourist fare, but this restaurant actually delivers. The ceviche was probably the best I had during my entire stay in Quintana Roo, and their take on cochinita pibil had this depth of flavor that reminded me why I fell in love with Yucatecan cooking in the first place. Even breakfast felt special rather than just fuel for the day ahead.
Why Guests Love It
There’s something about this place that just works for people looking to disconnect without roughing it. I watched guests who seemed genuinely relaxed — not that forced vacation happiness you sometimes see, but actually at ease. The staff strikes that perfect balance of being attentive without hovering, and the whole property has this laid-back sophistication that feels very Tulum. Whether you’re planning a romantic getaway or just want to experience the jungle-meets-beach vibe that makes this part of Mexico so special, Tago delivers on the promise of luxury that doesn’t feel stuffy or pretentious.

I forgot my iPad at the hotel beach and travelled, and the hotel staff helped ship it back to me (special shout out to Ulisses and Sergio – for their help and patience throughout the process).

The rooms were perfect, hotel is small but beautiful located right on the beach, lovely communal “centote pool” which was always quiet and plunge pool in room, great views and location. The restaurant staff and cleaners were fantastic.
