VR CLUB Tulum Riviera Overview
I’ll be honest — when I first pulled up to VR CLUB Tulum Riviera along the Tulum-Cancún highway, I wasn’t sure what to expect. The entrance is sort of tucked away, but once you’re inside, you realize this four-star place has figured out something that a lot of bigger resorts haven’t: how to feel intimate without being cramped.
The location is actually pretty brilliant if you think about it. You’re close enough to Tulum that you can easily hit the ruins or those Instagram-famous cenotes, but far enough from the main hotel zone that you’re not dealing with crowds every time you step outside. I mean, couples seem to get this — they consistently rate the spot an 8.3, and honestly, I can see why.
What struck me most was how they handle the whole beachfront thing. You know how some places promise beach access but then it’s this tiny strip of sand? Not here. The beach feels like it actually belongs to the hotel, and the staff keeps it clean without being overly fussy about it. There’s enough space to find your own little corner, even during busier periods.
The room I stayed in had this interesting mix of modern amenities and that rustic Tulum vibe everyone’s after. The air conditioning actually works well — which, trust me, matters more than you think when you’re dealing with Caribbean humidity. The bathroom was surprisingly spacious, and they’d clearly put thought into the lighting (you can actually see yourself in the mirror, unlike some places I’ve been).
Breakfast is where they really shine, though. The buffet setup isn’t huge, but everything feels fresh and there’s enough variety that you won’t get bored if you’re staying for several days. They do this thing with fresh fruit that’s clearly sourced locally — the papaya and mango actually taste like something, if you know what I mean. The coffee is decent too, which isn’t always a given at beach hotels.
One thing that surprised me was how well they handle the parking situation. It’s free, which is becoming rarer these days, and there’s actually enough space. I watched people come and go throughout my stay, and I never saw anyone circling around looking for a spot. Small detail, but it matters when you’re trying to explore the area.
The pool area is where you’ll probably spend most of your downtime. It’s not massive, but it’s designed well — there are spots that get sun all day and others that stay shaded if you prefer that. The poolside service is pretty responsive, and they make a solid margarita (I may have tested this multiple times for research purposes).
What I really appreciated was how the staff handles things. They’re attentive without being hovering, if that makes sense. When I needed recommendations for cenotes, the front desk guy actually drew me a little map and explained which ones would be less crowded at different times of day. That’s the kind of local knowledge you can’t get from a guidebook.
The whole property has this laid-back energy that feels authentic to the area. You’re not dealing with constant entertainment programs or people trying to sell you excursions every five minutes. It’s more about creating space for you to actually relax, which — let’s be real — is probably why you’re coming to Tulum in the first place.
Location-wise, you’re about a 15-minute drive from the main Tulum ruins, maybe 20 minutes to the town center depending on traffic. The hotel can arrange transportation, or you can easily grab a taxi. I rented a car and found it pretty straightforward to get around from here — you’re well-positioned for day trips to places like Cobá or even Playa del Carmen if you want a change of pace.
The beach access is really what sets this place apart from some of the inland options. You can walk out your door and be on white sand in a couple of minutes, and the water is that ridiculous turquoise color that looks fake in photos but is somehow even better in person. The waves are usually pretty gentle, so it’s good for swimming rather than just looking.
Look, this isn’t the fanciest place you’ll ever stay, but it gets the fundamentals right in a way that feels effortless. If you’re looking for that sweet spot between authentic Tulum vibes and actual comfort, this place delivers. The 8.4 rating makes sense once you’ve been there — it’s the kind of spot where everything just works the way it should.
Hotels in Tulum place guests near beachfront ceviche shacks, jungle wellness retreats, and bicycle lanes into town plazas.
