Wakax Hacienda – Cenote & Boutique Hotel Overview
First Impressions
You know what hits you first when you arrive at Wakax Hacienda – Cenote & Boutique Hotel? It’s not just another five-star resort trying too hard to impress. This place actually feels like someone’s incredibly sophisticated private estate that they’ve decided to share with a lucky few. The moment you drive up the jungle-lined road off the Tulum-Cancún highway, you realize you’ve found something genuinely special — and honestly, the fact that couples rate the location 9.4 out of 10 makes perfect sense once you’re here.
The Cenote Experience
Here’s the thing about having your own cenote on the property — it changes everything. I mean, you can swim in these crystal-clear underground pools whenever you want, without fighting crowds or paying extra fees like you would at the famous cenotes nearby. The water stays a perfect temperature year-round, and there’s something almost mystical about floating in these ancient limestone formations while tropical birds call overhead. It’s the kind of experience that makes you understand why the Maya considered cenotes sacred, and honestly, it’s probably the main reason this boutique hotel feels so extraordinary.
Luxury in the Jungle
The accommodations here strike this perfect balance between refined luxury and authentic Mexican design. Each room feels like a private sanctuary, with handcrafted details and natural materials that complement rather than compete with the surrounding jungle. You’ll find yourself spending way more time on your private terrace than you planned, just listening to the sounds of the forest and watching iguanas sunbathe on the limestone walls. The attention to detail is remarkable — from the locally-sourced textiles to the way the architecture seems to grow organically from the landscape.
Location and Daily Rhythms
Being positioned between Tulum and Cancún means you get the best of both worlds, though you might find yourself reluctant to leave the property. The complimentary parking makes it easy to explore — Tulum’s beach clubs and ruins are about 15 minutes away, while the airport is manageable when it’s time to head home. But honestly, the continental breakfast served each morning sets such a peaceful tone for the day that you’ll probably want to linger over coffee and fresh tropical fruit before venturing out. The staff seems to understand that this is a place for slowing down, not rushing around.
Why Guests Love It
What really sets Wakax Hacienda apart is how it manages to feel both exclusive and welcoming at the same time. The 9.5 guest rating isn’t just about the luxury amenities or the stunning cenote — it’s about the overall experience of feeling like you’ve discovered a hidden gem. The property’s intimate size means the service feels genuinely personal, and the jungle setting provides a sense of privacy that’s hard to find at larger resorts. You’ll leave feeling like you’ve experienced the real magic of the Riviera Maya, not just another beautiful hotel.
The luxury concierge service in Tulum secures sunrise yacht charters, VIP beach club tables, and bespoke wellness itineraries under jungle canopies.

Reviews of Wakax Hacienda – Cenote & Boutique Hotel
Alvaro from Portugal (10/10)
the integration of the houses in the nature, the decoration of the common spaces and rooms, the privacy, the natural feeling, the green everywhere! It was great !
Ivanna from Ukraine (10/10)
Everything was amazing. It feels like the owners care about the details and making your stay as comfortable as possible. The territory was huge, there were multiple cenotes, underground river, a beautiful lagoon, 3 pools, and more. There's lots of things to do that are included in your stay, like kayaks/paddle boards, bike tours, underground river tour and daily yoga classes. The tour guide Gonzalo was amazing, he was very passionate about the tours, and went above and beyond in making sure everyone was comfortable and had a great time during the experiences. The food in the restaurant was really good, and the staff very nice and helpful. There's plenty to do on the premises, but the location is also close to many of Tulum's white sand beaches.

Everything! It’s a beautiful property with all of the amenities and a great chef. There is so much to see and do on site. Great for families/weddings/retreats. A special thank you to the staff who are wonderful & amazing. They carry the heart of the Yucatan and that is exactly what you get when you stay with them.
Gustavo from United Kingdom (10/10)
Absolutely everything. The staff is amazing, the premises are outstanding, the place is very quiet and we barely saw any other guest during a 3-night stay.
Ps: the honey scented amenities were special.Zizzleblog from United Arab Emirates (9/10)
The grounds were sooo beautiful 😍 I loved the tour guide, he was so enthusiastic and informative and also the spa therapist was wonderful.
Marius from Romania (10/10)
Everything met and exceeded our expectations. The staff is incredibly professional and nice. The food was INCREDIBLE, fresh ingredients and exquisite preparation.
The resort premises are huge, in the middle of a secluded, quiet part of the near-beach jungle. We stayed in an individual lodge with two bedrooms and two bathrooms. The rooms are designed and furnished in the traditional Mexican and Yucatan style.
The resort is a piece of paradise: quiet, surrounded by trees and vegetation, there's a lagoon nearby ON THE PROPERTY. There's also a cenote right in the resort and it includes an underground cave which can be toured, one of the *many* activities the resort offers (for free).
It really feels like the resort was built around the nature and the spirit of the Yucatan peninsula, as opposed to putting these elements around the resort.
There are plenty of activities and things to explore just within the resort itself, with many swimming pools, bike tours and hidden gems on the premises (such as a traditional church, quiet gazebos, the cenote, library, a recreation of a Mayan village, etc.).
The resort is approx 10 mins drive from Tulum, 8 mins drive from Xel-Ha water park. We'd recommend renting and coming by car for everyone who stays here to enjoy the surroundings as well (including places like Playa Paraiso).
The staff was incredibly accommodating: we missed our connection and lost one night of vacation stuck in Atlanta and the resort management offered us an extra night *for free* to make up for this (although they didn't have to).
We also met the owner of the resort along with the director and we could feel their passion for nature, for preserving and passing the spirit of the place onto the resort and its guests.
Big thanks and kudos to Gonzo (leading cenote and cave tours and various other activities), Alejandro (our favorite restaurant staff), and all other staff who made our stay feel warm and welcome.Susan from United Kingdom (10/10)
Breakfast was delicious and with great variety – the food overall was wonderful and the cocktails were delicious. We felt so looked after by the staff, who were all friendly and very responsive when we had queries. The setting is blissful – we felt quite secluded in the jungle and the facilities were top-notch. We loved the range of complimentary activities, particularly the cenote tour with Gonzalo, the on-site guide. He led us on an incredible tour of the underground river (cenote) right on the property. There are numerous different pools in lovely settings in addition to the gorgeous lagoon. The entire experience was wonderful, start to finish, and we will most definitely be back.

Everything! The room, the hacienda, the staff, the food and drinks at the restaurant, and the additional services (yoga class in the morning)

Everything, it’s a truly exceptional place to stay, unique for the location
