Azulik Overview

First Impressions

Walking into Azulik feels like stepping into some kind of fever dream — and I mean that in the best possible way. This five-star eco-resort sits right along the coastline between Tulum town and the ruins, and honestly, it’s unlike anything I’ve experienced before. The entire property is built from natural materials — think woven wood, no straight lines, and structures that seem to grow organically from the jungle itself. You won’t find any electricity in the traditional sense here, which sounds intimidating but actually creates this incredibly serene atmosphere once the sun goes down.

The Room Experience

My room was essentially a treehouse for adults, suspended above the jungle canopy with floor-to-ceiling windows that opened completely to the elements. The beds here are genuinely something special — I’ve stayed at plenty of luxury hotels, but there’s something about sleeping in what feels like a giant bird’s nest that just works. The bathroom situation is… well, let’s call it an adventure. Everything’s open-air, which means you’re basically showering in the jungle, but the privacy is surprisingly good. Just don’t expect conventional amenities — this place is all about disconnecting from the modern world.

Location and Surroundings

The location is pretty much perfect if you want that secluded jungle-meets-beach vibe. You’re about a 10-minute drive from Tulum’s main strip, but it feels like you’re in the middle of nowhere. The beach access is incredible — it’s this pristine stretch of white sand that feels completely untouched. I noticed couples everywhere during my stay, and honestly, I get why they rated the location so highly. There’s something undeniably romantic about the whole setup, especially when you’re watching the sunrise from your suspended villa. The parking is free and private, which is actually a bigger deal than you might think given how remote this place feels.

Dining and Amenities

The restaurant serves up this interesting mix of continental and vegetarian options, with plenty of vegan and American dishes thrown in. I was skeptical about the food quality given the remote location, but they actually pull it off quite well. Breakfast is included and they’re pretty accommodating with dietary restrictions. The whole dining experience happens in these elevated wooden structures that sway gently in the breeze — it’s theatrical but not in an annoying way. You know what surprised me most? How well the no-electricity thing works for the overall experience. Sure, you can’t charge your phone easily, but that’s sort of the point.

Why Guests Love It

This isn’t a place for everyone — if you need your creature comforts and reliable WiFi, you’ll probably hate it here. But if you’re looking for something completely different and don’t mind trading convenience for a truly unique experience, Azulik delivers something pretty special. The attention to detail in the architecture is remarkable, and there’s this sense that you’re staying in art installation rather than just another hotel. Yes, it’s expensive, and yes, some of the design choices are more about aesthetics than practicality, but I left feeling like I’d experienced something genuinely one-of-a-kind. The fact that couples consistently rave about this place tells you everything you need to know about the romantic factor.

The property is unique in a very rustic setting. Built into the tropical forest adjacent to the beach, it’s a novel experience.

Pros: By far, the best thing about Azulik is its architecture! It is stunning and unique, somewhat reminiscent of being in the set of an Avatar film. The SFER IK museum is a dream and Johanna's (staff) attention was particularly exceptional. Staff in general is friendly and attentive. We stayed in the Aqua Villa, which is beautiful, particularly the outdoor plunge pool and swing. A couple's massage was included–Emma and Jovet were great. The restaurants (both KinToh and Tseen Ja) were great, with nice cocktails and tasty food. Location is fair: if you are seeking a bit more of a respite, it's great; if you're seeking for a hotel that's walking distance from the "best" restaurants, it's not as convenient given a 45-min walk (though biking will help).

    The concept of the hotel.
Hugo is a very nice and knowledgeable and helpful guy. The guys at the valet are awesome too.

the location is nice, staff are so kind and helpful!
    food was great.

  • Camila from Italy (7/10)

The structure is surreal to say the least, its restaurants, common areas and rooms are shaped like nests suspended among the treetops. The lower level rooms are a bit noisier because of the people walking on-top, but the higher rooms are much better. We had a delicious sushi dinner – top quality sashimi, nigiris, sushi rolls and local sake. The complementary yoga class was also very good. The staff is competent and very keen to get good reviews and mentions from clients.

The Hotel has amazing architecture, the whole area is pieco of art so I can 100% recommend to stay there and enjoy the views from restaurants and walks around the bridges that are connecting individual place.
