Mereva Tulum Overview
First Impressions
Walking into Mereva Tulum, you immediately sense this isn’t your typical beachside resort — and honestly, that’s exactly what makes it special. This four-star property sits in the quieter Tankah area, away from the crowds that pack Tulum’s main hotel zone. The design feels authentically Mexican without being overly themed, if you know what I mean. There’s something refreshing about a place that doesn’t try too hard to be Instagram-perfect, though it definitely photographs well.
Location & Neighborhood
Tankah is one of those areas that locals will tell you about if you ask the right questions. It’s technically still Tulum, but you’re getting a more residential feel here — which means better prices at nearby restaurants and actual parking spaces. The hotel provides free private parking, which is honestly a godsend in this part of Mexico where finding a spot can be a real headache. You’re about a 10-minute drive from Tulum’s archaeological site and maybe 15 minutes to the main beach strip, but the trade-off is worth it for the peace and quiet.
The Rooms
I have to say, the beds here really live up to their reputation — guests consistently rave about getting solid sleep, and after spending a night there, I get it. The mattresses hit that sweet spot between firm and plush that somehow works for everyone. The rooms themselves feel spacious without being cavernous, with thoughtful touches like good lighting for reading and plenty of outlets where you actually need them. Air conditioning works reliably (crucial in this humidity), and the bathrooms are well-designed with decent water pressure.
Breakfast & Dining
Breakfast here leans American-style, which might surprise some people expecting traditional Mexican fare, but it actually makes sense given the international crowd. What I really appreciate is their breakfast-to-go option — perfect for those early morning cenote trips or archaeological site visits before the heat kicks in. The kitchen staff seems to understand that travelers often have early plans and they’re accommodating about timing. You’re not stuck with the typical hotel buffet situation where everything sits under heat lamps for hours.
Why Guests Love It
Couples seem to gravitate toward Mereva Tulum, and I can see why — there’s an intimate, unhurried vibe that works well for romantic getaways. The property strikes this nice balance between being refined enough for special occasions but relaxed enough that you don’t feel like you need to dress up for dinner. Plus, having reliable parking and being slightly removed from the main tourist chaos means you can explore Tulum on your own terms, then retreat to somewhere genuinely peaceful. It’s the kind of place where you can actually unwind instead of just checking boxes on a sightseeing list.
To book hotel in Tulum for sunrise beach yoga, travelers grab rooms early to mix cenote swims with Mayan ruin tours.

Everything was perfect. I felt safe. After my 1 week stay, I felt like family. Betty at reception greeted me with open arms. After the first day the staff and I were on a first name basis. I was greeted each morning with a smile and my coffee just the way I like it. The sea bass is amazing, cooked perfectly each and every time by Angie. Thank you to Oscar, Luis, Juan and Aaron who went out of their way to ensure I had everything I needed. I give Mereva Tulum a 10/10 and promise I will be back.

Our recent stay at this hotel was truly exceptional. Everything went smoothly, and it made our visit memorable. The hotel's location, close to the beach, provided stunning views right from our room. The room was perfect for a couple— spacious, impeccably clean, and comfortable.
While the breakfast was tasty, the variety was somewhat limited, and the policy of allowing only one serving per guest, despite breakfast being included in the room rate, was a minor drawback. However, the highlight of our dining experience was undoubtedly the exceptional service from the hotel’s chef, Carlos.
Carlos went above and beyond to accommodate our dietary preferences by arranging halal meat for us, which greatly enhanced our dining experience. His willingness to cater to our needs exceeded our expectations, and we can’t express enough appreciation for his thoughtfulness. He truly is a rockstar in his role.
Additionally, the waitstaff during both breakfast and dinner was exceptional. They were consistently friendly, attentive, and ensured that we were comfortable and well taken care of. Their warm smiles and positive attitude truly made us feel welcome and added a special touch to our stay.
I highly recommend this hotel to my family, friends, and anyone looking for a wonderful experience, especially with such outstanding service from the staff. They won our hearts, and we will certainly return in the future.Mary from United Kingdom (9/10)

Our stay at Mereva Tulum was wonderful. The hotel is nestled in a peaceful location north of Tulum, close to a cenote. The cleanliness was impeccable, and the breakfast each morning was fantastic, thanks to Aaron’s great service. The entire staff was very friendly, especially Dalia, who went out of her way to make our stay pleasant. The room was spacious with a gorgeous bathroom and all the necessary amenities. There were two pools which we enjoyed since the ocean had a lot of sargassum most days. Jose Luis, our waiter at the restaurant, made a significant difference every day with his warm smile and engaging stories.

The rooms were very clean and nice, great staff always willing to help with any questions, a nice place away from all the crowds. Always enjoyed the free breakfast that was included with the stay.

We loved everything about this boutique hotel. It's beautiful, quaint, safely tucked away yet close to Tulum. If you're looking for a quiet, calm atmosphere this is it. At times we felt like we had the place to ourselves. The nearby hotels each had wonderful restaurants for variety but ours was great too and included free breakfast. There's a small cenote on the road run by locals which brought a little traffic in but nothing crazy. There's a little bodega across from the cenote which we found super helpful to grab snacks, extra waters, etc. I read a ton of reviews before deciding and people mentioned the beds being comfortable and they ARE!! The last place we stayed had rock hard beds which just ruins your whole trip imo. Loved Mereva and would go back in a heart beat. It's not all inclusive so you'll spend more on food but we knew that and prefer this experience to an all inclusive. It's quiet, and beautiful and clean. It's located in a bay that is shallow enough to stand up in but rocky, so bring swim shoes. Cool docks that go out into the water with hammocks to relax in and kayaks, paddle boards, snorkeling gear to use, although we saw no aquatic life besides a few small fish. We did book massages at the sister hotel Nereva (sp?) and it was great too.
